Hi all,

Any ideas on where to source an alternator for a 2.5 non turbo daily from 1996? Have just got back from being rescued and it's dark and late but I will go find the part no. tomorrow.

Thanks guys!

youre sure its the alternator? i had a charging problem on my 2.8 mk2 the other year, turned out to be the wire from the alternator to the battery that was broken almost completely through. i was only getting 12.7v at the battery with the engine running, but at the alternator output it was 14.5v, a fresh bit of cable from alternator direct to battery positive (rather than alternator to starter motor to battery positive, soon sorted it out and its charged ok ever since.
having said that, if the alternator is duff, it might just be the brushes in it, you caan buy carbon brushes for alternators from any decent auto electrical suppliers or from ebay, as another alternative, you can get your faulty alternator repaired or rebuilt/rewound at an auto electricians and that might be a cheaper option than a new unit.

good point, you can normally get rectifier packs/bearings to renew, if alternator is faulty its generally rectifier pack duff or brushes, very rare for windings to burn out,do replace both bearings at the same time and renew belt.Joe
