I have heard that you can turn the engine over and let the compression blow them out...not sure how true or how safe this would be!
I have taken mine out twice both times I have speared them with copper grease before refitting...again not sure if it works at the high temperature.

Hi Graeme - quick question:
Are there copper washer seals at the bottom of the nozzles?
Or do they simply sell onto the aluminium head?
Can't see any copper washers on mine after removing the injectors!

UPDATE
All 4 x injectors done on my 49-12 :D
When I got 'em all out and on the bench I was able to test them.
All of them were dribbling and most of the holes were carboned up.
What really saved the day IMHO was buying new Bosch nozzles from eBay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282462063070?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Order late on Monday and with me on Wednesday.
Easily fitted in my injectors on my 'clean bench' and torqued up to 60nM
Testing revealed that they were all more or less spot on calibration....
....and that nice 'chirp' as they fired off.
Nice clean stray and excellent atomisation B)
All fitted back in the engine, heater refitted, coolant refilled and test run.
Engine nice and crisp without excessive smoke.

Finally, 2 further jobs to finish in the next fews days:
1. Idle speed should be 750rpm (too low)
2. Need to check injection timing

Thanks for your help guys.
Hope my experiences help others
Feel free to PM for for inspiration and advice ;)

That is god news, sorry I did not reply to the washer question . I have only just seen it. Anyway you have it sorted it seems.

Thanks for the update. good information. Have you got a specialist tester for injectors?

I put in the fuel additive cleaner. There was no immediate improvement - but then at such a low concentration it seems dubious that anyone gets an immediate improvement.
Anyway, I've now got through 50l of fuel with the additive and its probably made an improvement. I can start the engine with just a flick of the ignition key and it idles reasonably smoothly. I say "probably" because the weather has improved a bit since January. Still smokey and a bit of vibration, but not sure if that's a fault or a feature. I'll still take it to a specialist at some point.
