I've got a 1996 35:10 Iveco camper with 57,000 on the clock that is running well but very noisy and thirsty, which isn't surprising considering it weighs about over 4000kg when loaded with water, fuel gas and supplies. (I got it uprated last year to 4250kg) The engine pulls well enough on the flat and but dies on the hills and its very noisy when the revs go over 2000. I think it needs a stronger engine but I what would be the best option to go for if I do get a replacement engine or how easily a bigger, more modern engine would slot in and hook up. Would greatly appreciate any advice and suggestions. |

If power and a quiet drive are your priorities, then you have bought the wrong vehicle!! There are reasonable things you can do to dampen the noise (see my blog) http://drmarkstardis.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/sound-insulation.html |

Easier for sure, but to get another with a similar spec would cost a small fortune and I want to hold on to the old girl as she's built like a tank, cosy and reliable. Thanks for the tips Mark. The lead blanket looks interesting. Does the lead make much of a difference by itself? I've got some lead flashing that could be fashioned to suit so will give that a try. I already put a deep sponge from an old couch over the top of the engine bay under the hood and that does make a noticeable difference. My main concern is that the 4 tonne is too much of a strain for the 2.5 litre engine so thinking that replacing it would solve the two problems. Edited by shamrock, Feb 20 2017, 11:28 PM.
