I need to get my gear stick off to replace the gaiter (which I've finally managed to source). The gear shift spins round on a pin at the base but the stick won't lift off. The workshop manual says remove speed control support, but my gear selection pattern doesn't match the standard in the manual as I have a dog leg 1-2. I'll do it if that's correct. Does anyone have any tips/tools to do this. I suspect it's been in place since manufacture and may have self welded. |

As far as I remember the gaiter comes off with the stick in place......just take the knob off the top and slide the gaiter up and off. Graeme |

But if you need to get the stick off, there's a plastic collet between the stick and actual selector. Get a screwdriver and pull it down, the gearstick should lift off after. Beware though, it's a pain to get back in - I ended up siliconing the two together. |

Thanks for that. I suspect it's all been together so long it'll just be a pig to get apart. I was worried about doing something terminalo r expensive to the selector if I used brute force in the wrong place. |
