Hello. I once again rely on wisdom of others. I hope someone has a good answer before I meet another mechanic who sees my vehicle for the first time. History: on last trip one of the injector fuel pipes broke (metal one). We replaced two. After leaving the garage the car lost power regularely while driving. Changing the fuel lines solved the problem. Coming home it was the first time the engine didn't stop after switching off. Took a few seconds. Did not think of it much at that time. After driving 1450 kms stopped to pay toll and was not able do drive away. No reaction on pressing gas pedal. Checked cable. Works fine, fuel is being pumped (i put a little tranparant pipe so saw it being sucked up) I can start the car. Keeps running stationary and it drives (crawls) in first and second gear. I read about the solenoid (not shutting off, but mine stops after several seconds), injector pump, or filters. Any one an idea where to look before I find a mechanic tomorrow? Thanks in advance for the thoughts! |

The engine not shutting off sounds like the solenoid, I've had that happen on quite a few old engines in cars I've had. When you hit the accelerator does the engine rev up properly? If it does you might take a look at the drive train end rather than the engine. If not you might want to look at the injectors again. Do you have electronically operated injectors as there might be a wiring problem - just a suggestion. If they are mechanical rotary it might be a worn part. The workshop manual is a good thing to download even if it just helps you eliminate problems. |

Thanks for the reply. The engine always shuts of but ik takes a few, 3-10 seconds. I connected the solenoid directly on the battery and I hear the clicking sound on contact. With fixed connection it does not shut off. The engine does not rev at all. I just drove on stationary gas till i hit a bump and suddenly i could make revs again. Till i had to stop and gas pedal was not responding again! The injectors are mechanical. I do have the workbook but I think there are some differences in the fuel system between the 90 - 96 and 96 - 2000 model? |
