So yesterday my iveco daily iris bus packed up, and I'm going to swap out the engine given the thing has being dieing from day one with fuel pump issues and many more.
It's time for a new or better conditioned lump.
I'm curious to know if there are any other options than the non intercooled turbo 2.8?
Can the non intercooled version be replaced with the intercooled engine?
Given that the vehicle is a Mellor coach built iris bus it's down as a 49.10 and a 8140. So any a vice regards which engine to go for would be much appreciated.

Any gen 2 with .12 (for example 35.12) should have an engine that fits. Isn't there also a 2.5l version with a similar output? Would have thought that'd fit too, but maybe there's differences I'm just guessing here!

Hopefully someone will reply with a more comprehensive list, maybe some early gen 3s had the same engine, I may be talking testicles though.

If your wanting more power over the non intercooled engine the intercooled engine aint going to set the world on fire!

Not sure on the gen 3 engines fitting but the downside with the 'ecu' engines is reliability!
The 'mechanical' engines seem very reliable but power output is poor........

If you have money to burn it would be nice to go to a diesel specialist and get them to fit a specalist turbo, modern intercooler, bigger injectors and tweak the fuel pump.
If you don't go mad you would have the best of both worlds.....
Depending on your rear diff, that would also be worth doing.
