Hi, I have a loose stud on my rear wheels (4WD version) the stud itself is in good condition, it was one I replaced 6 years ago. Are there any tips for putting this back in. Should I use loctite or similar? I will clean it all up carefully, pack it with washers and tighten a wheel nut on pull it into position, does that sound reasonable? The manual says apply up to 2000kg, but does not say how and implies it can be done in situ. |

When you say loose, do you mean it moves back towards the diff or that it turns? It should not turn as they are on splines. They are normally a tight fit because of being drawn in when the wheel is tightened. As long as it is not spinning then it should be fine once the wheel is on and tight. As always other opinions are available. You could glue it in with studloc it wont do any harm. Graeme |

yes, that's right it has moved backwards. After I posted I realised what you have said tat spinning is the only serious problem. It has splines and they look to be in good condition. I don't think the hole is splined though, so not sure how that works?? |

Probably not splines as such but serrations that are made by rolling rather than cutting which bite into a plain hole as they are pressed in. |
