Hi all, I'm having ongoing problems with my oil pressure after the engine has been drained. Originally I seized an engine after an oil change as the oil never got around the engine after it was changed. I replaced this with another engine which really struggled to get oil pressure when we put it together. We primed it everywhere we could and eventually got pressure but we had to turn the engine over dry for a lot longer than I felt comfortable with in order to get it going. I've since drained it again to change some gaskets and now we have the same problem. No oil pressure at all. Turned the engine over loads and am really worried about it turning over dry again. Does anyone know if this is a known problem on the Gen 2 2.8 turbo? Are we missing something. Some sort of magic tick to get the oil moving!? Once it's around the engine it's fine but getting pressure after a change seems impossible! |

I find that very strange. The oil settles in the sump normally, so I can't see how the oil change has made a difference. I find it uses 7ltr of oil. Obviously it will be low until that amount is added. |

thats bizzare! if it a straight oil change if you dont part fill new oil filter it generally takes about 2 seconds before the oil light flicks off. my only thought is kerried oil pump other than that at a loss really ,sorry .Joe |

Hi, obvious question, you certainly considered it already - did you carry any parts of the lubrication system over from the old engine that might be faulty or blocked? In particular the oil pump, filter bracket, intake from the sump, etc? Regards Raphael Edited by raphtor, Jul 23 2017, 05:32 PM.

Hi all, thanks for the reponses. We eventually got oil pressure but had to turn over the engine for a long time. The only parts which are carried over from the original engine are the cylinder head, turbo, sump and pickup (which has been checked and isn't blocked). I'm at my wits end with it!! |

I think it's a weird problem. Many garages would tend to replace parts largely at random, so in that spirit: 1) Is the oil pressure switch faulty? i.e. oil pressure actually OK but faulty sensor. 2) oil filter blocked or faulty I think both those are quite cheap to try out. |

Hi, I agree, the switch could be broken - seen this before. Measuring the actual oil pressure with a gauge is even better than swapping switches. Not sure about the where and the how though... Probably with an adapter from where the switch sits. Regards Raphael |

It's really strange that it's carried over from the original engine. The oil filter was changed with the original oil change before the engine seized. A new oil filter was used with the new rebuilt engine to rule that out. The lack of oil pressure upon rebuild was measured with a gauge in place of the sensor. There was no pressure. We watched the gauge while turning over and it registered nothing until we primed it where we could and turned it over for a really uncomfortably long time. Multiple attempts for 10-15 seconds at a time, and then getting pressure on maybe the 10th time. It's all very intense while that's happening! |
