Iveco 65c15c (i think); poor gear change

Hi.
I am new to this site. please be gentle.

I have a 65c15c (according to the plate) horsebox conversion 02 reg.

The gear box has always been very stiff and notchey, hard to get into third, and no spring action to push gearlever over to higher gears.

My questions are:-

Should there be a spring action,if so how do i get to it?
I want to change gearbox oil, what oil, and how to drain/refill, heard rumours, not that easy to refill ?
I assume the gearbox is cable operated, how do i adjust it, and / or, if i need new cables, how do i set it up?

Many thanks in advance.

Chris.

after 200,000miles, I too wish to change the gearbox oil, despite the stiff gear changes being a problem which my local Iveco dealership have admitted they have seen many times before, they would not change the gearbox oil for me, instead insisting there was nothing wrong with it (they tested it warm) and then telling me the only thing they could do, would be to send the gearbox away for an overhaul. robbing *&$*. its no wonder they all drive nice cars, only BMWs' and Audis' in the staff car park.

anyway, back on topic, the drain plug is very obvious on the gearbox, but the refill plug is much more elusive. I have spent the last 2 days scouring the transmission section of the workshop manual, searching for a hint but nowhere can i find a refill grub.
only on page 474 can i find any mention of a plug. and on page 499 it tells me to do an oil refill, but doesn't mention how. most annoying.
can anyone help?

Hi,
About, changing the speed: the gear oil quality may be the cause.Iveco recommends”TUTELA TRUCK GEARLITE”,can be used in every season of the year.(SAE 75W-80, API GL 4.).

Yes, must be a spring located in the gearbox, but I do not know where exactly. It is possible to have access from outside of the gearbox (plug, screw...).

Changing gearbox oil...page 991 (section 13 - Scheduled maintenance - MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS). :)

Well, the oil has been changed and it runs nearly like new, amazing :D
still not too clever when downshifting, but i only drove it round the block, so i can't say i've tested it properly, also it might have still had some residual heat left in it which helped. i will test it tomorrow morning to make sure it's good when cold.

to anyone else planning to do this, the vehicle needs to be on a flat surface to drain the oil out, so that means either using a lift or a pit, or you have nearly no crawl space to work under. my situation was the latter, good job i'm a skinny runt :P without a pit to stand in, its next to impossible to pour the oil in with a flexy funnel, so when you buy/search the garage, for some plastic tubing, make sure the siphon tube is at least 3/4". When i started refilling, it took nearly half an hour to siphon 1/4 of a litre using a 1/4" tube (its all i had). bearing in mind it's been well below 10 degrees C here in manchester today. In the end it only took 2 hours to fill the box because i got bored very quickly and sat the remaining 2 bottles in very hot water to thin the oil before hand.

I think you need a better dealer! I got mine from Stormont Iveco near Brighton, Gearbox - Petronas Tutela Transmission ZC 75 SYNTH (API GL 5, 75W-80). You could also try Vexi and cheapivecoparts (zeppelin) to see if they can do it by mail order.
