I have a 2.8td intercooled 49-10 on a 98 plate, that is leaking oil from somewhere around the injector pump, does anyone know wheter the there is a gasket between the block and pump, or if there is, if its a rubber O ring, or a normal gasket and would `oil stop leak` work on it. It failed MOT today because of it, (VOSA test centre). Thanks Martin |

Same problem with mine. Anyone know if it's the injector pump? I thought it might have been the rocker cover or lift pump, but tried them and it's still leaking. Seems to be dropping oil onto the top of the oil filter from somewhere then gathering up on the crossmember and leaving a nice puddle of oil everywhere I park. I've had other Dailys and never had this problem before, but it seems it's maybe a common fault. Any ideas? |

Ive just had the same problem with my daily. The leaks commonly come from either:- The dipstick interface with the engine lower crank case (2 o-rings originally made from nitrile degrade with age). Engine sump gasket (same problem the gasket crumbles). Crankshaft oil seal (front shows signs of oil leaking onto oil heat exchanger coolant line and then runs down the filter) """ i think this might be your problem"""" And finally the one i was searching out for ages turned out to be the black plastic breather condenser on the right side of the engine. This connects the oil pipe that runs the condensed oil to the dipstick. and a vapour pipe along the side of the engine past the fuel lift pump to the air intake. But i found that it also connects via a o ringed spigot to the engine block and if the bolts holding it on are loose the engine vibrations can cause a slight drip down the side of the engine. |

Thanks dude, some stuff to think about there. I'm pretty sure it's not the front seal as I've just had it all apart to do the cambelt and the front of the engine showed no signs of leaking - it's definitely on the right hand side. Also the dipstick tube was originally leaking, but turned out not to be the major one. That breather pipe does sound like it might be worth investigating though. Fingers crossed. |

Finally worked it out! It was the vacuum pump gasket. Looking at these older posts here I bet it's the same problem on nearly all of them - worth checking if anyone is still trying to find a leak. It was a bit of a pain to get on and off, but I did it on my back ok with no pit or ramps or anything - although I did drive the front wheels onto a couple of railway sleepers to give me more room. But it's no great problem - 4 13mm bolts and a jubilee clip on the vacuum pipe. Probably an hour's work from start to finish. |

I also have an annoying leak on mine, after a lot of cleaning it turns out to be the vacuum pump too it's amazing how the oil dripping from one location can get everywhere! Is it an o ring or flat gasket on these vacuum pumps?? 1996 35E 12 Edited by Aquatek, Dec 21 2014, 10:58 AM.

Hm, just found the reason for the oil leak, one of the bolt holes has a stripped thread, oh joy!!

Hi mate Check block breather isn't blocked and there are oil supplements you can add to help old seals £7-10 ish ask at local wholesalers Don't know if this works it's just the only one I could find on ebay in 10 seconds http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rejuvenate-hardened-oil-seals-AMETECH-OIL-ANTI-LEAK-/350755450694?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item51aaa76f46 regards Ian |

I have recently bought a 1998 2.8 turbo 35 12 that has a leak om the injector pump. At some point someone tried to repair it with chemical metal. A mechanic looked at it but didn't want to touch it so I think I might have to get a new pump. Any ideas? Also, can anyone tell me if it has a timing belt or chain? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you. Anthony. |

Sorry to drag this thread back from the dead, but I'm curious to know if Aquatek ever found the source of the oil leak above the vacuum pump ? I have a similar oil leak. |
