My Speedometer om my 65C15 has recently stopped working and with it has went my limiter which usually limits my speed to 56 mph, which now means I can travel at more than 56mph. The rev counter still works but the mileometer on dash and tacho have not moved since speedo stopped working?

The tacho is still powered up.

Anybody any idea's?

it sounds like the speedo sensor on the gearbox has broken or come out...

or maybe the wiring leading to/from it....

but on mine I'm pretty sure it has 2 separate wires connecting into it, one for the speedo and one for the tacho

I'd get down underneath and see if you can see it, and see if it's been damaged by a stone/stick being thrown up from a tyre etc..

Hi Knighty,

Had a quick look today and seen two cables entering gearbox, one which was sealed so I didnt touch it and one two pin which just clips out, when I opened this one an oil like substance came out so i dried both bits as best i could and re-plugged but no difference.

Where's the oil coming from and is that the correct sensor?

Thanks, TM

Hello,
im aware this is an old thread, but i resembles my problem significantly. please advise if you would prefer me to start a new thread.

i'm having similar trouble with my 2004 35C13, the speedo worked intermittently for a day and then died. i crawled under than van to check connections, removed the sensor for the passenger side, and tested continuity as in the manual (i was pleased it was the same example as my problem) no go, a broken wire. happily the wire was broken where the 4 sensor wires join the chassis loom, the constant vibrations had rubbed through the plastic protection AND all 3 orange wires. after some multimeter action i connected the wires back up correctly, and had about 3ohms when testing insdide the cab as described in continuity test.pdf.
my problem is, the speedo is still not working, but, tacho, and all other dials are fine. so, is this more likely to be a console problem or a sensor problem, i don't have access to spares of either, so before i go out and spend money (bearing in mind i was quoted £150 for the sensor URGH!!) could i please have any opinions.
thanks.

Hi,

There are four wires to the speed sensor: 5514 -> Supply (+15); 0058 -> Earth; 5517 <- Tachometric signal; 5516 <- To transmitter for tachometer.
The speedometer uses only the signal wire No. 5517 and Earth wire No. 0058, passing first through the tachograph, or via a bridge connector ( without tachograf).
The wire - nr.5516 is used only by tachograph.
So if the speedometer is not working, and the tachograph is in functions means that the sensor is good, and the wiring up to the tachograph is good, it remains to verify the wiring of the tachograph to the instrument cluster, the connectors from tahograf and instrument cluster, or the instrument cluster.
The instrument cluster can have bed solder points, that can be fixed, but the instrument cluster is difficult to dismantle. It is tricky to extract the indicators needle from dials.

Nb.
5xxx= orange
0xxx= brown

P.S.
There are some tachograph models that use a sort of signal amplifier, in this case the yellow connector should not be inserted into the tachograph. ^o)
