I have an Iveco 50 C 18 towing a 5th wheeler. I find the ride a little hard. Does anyone know anything about fitting air bag suspension and how it affects the ride. Regards Johndaph. |

Hi Johndaph, If comfort is a problem then you may have to much weight over the rear axle, which is lifting the front end. As the 50C18 has torsion bar suspension at the front these need to have weight on them; if not then you will experience a harsh ride. I would get your weight distribution checked. There are after market air suspensions available for the rear only; look up "Airbag man" as an example. This will allow you to improve vehicle/trailer ride height, which in turn may improve your ride comfort. Other things you can consider are changing the front original shock absorbers with gas adjustable type and maybe even suspension type seats? regards |

Have recently fitted Ride-Rite / Firestone air spring helper suspension kit to 35S14 2008 auto motorhome, with great improvement all round. Ride height at rear can be adjusted by varying inflation pressure, which is needed for the heavy body on motorhomes. Kit supplied for specific Iveco model with all accessories and instructions. No problems in fitting. Stability greatly improved in cross winds, with steering 'twitchiness' caused by rear suspension rubber stops overcome. Really recommended. |

ive fitted air bags on my 35s12 where the bump stops were. just made a new bracket to fit onto the chassis, and the bottom fits nicely onto the axle. if your good with mechanical / fabrication, then its a DIY job. most expensive part is the air bags (IIRC, they were around £150-180) |

Hi John, I have factory airbag suspension on my 500c18 towing a 5'r and it rides well. My hitch is 25mm forward of the diff centre line. I think retro fitting the factory airbag suspension would be costly unless you can get the complete system from a wreck. They are controlled by their own computer but you would probably be better off without it. |

Hi Guys, I have a 50C 18 and towing an 8m 5th wheeler with standard suspension on the truck, so far I have had no problem although part of the deal when we bought the truck was that we had suspension seats fitted which makes a great deal of difference. The truck is fitted with an alloy tray and alloy boxes, the turntable is mounted over the axle as it should be which places the right load on the front axles. I did think at first I should have gone with airbags but after towing for some 10,000 km I am happy with the rig. |
