Rear axle oil seal; just a rubber 'O' ring..?

Hi all

My early Daily 35s11 recently failed it's MOT on a number of quite minor points - that being an Iveco set you back a small fortune to get the parts to repair of course... One of the points was a leaky rear axle oil seal allowing the rear brake disc to be contaminated with lubricant.

Now, I've been supplied with a new axle oil seal 'O' ring (part number 7180897) however, it looks like a seal for a WI jam jar pot lid - not a commercial vehicle axle seal. So, can anybody confirm this is all that's fitted..?

Cheers B)

I have a 35s12 HPI MWB. Do you mean the seal to the drive shaft. Mine was a proper oil seal part no I0007185355. it was £22.47 inc vat very expensive for a seal. Would take it back and check.

Hello again

Thanks for that yorkiedave, but I think p/n 7185355 is the seal for the differential pinnion shaft rather than the half shaft end of the axle..?

Anyone able to shed light on all this..?

Cheers B)

yes that sounds right, changed one of mine a couple of weeks ago, looks like the bands on top of wi jam. if your seal is leaking you should be able to get the half shaft out quite easily too.
