Hi all, my Iveco 35s11 failed its mot, i have fixed nearly all now but a couple of questions if someone could please help. 1. Rear Registration lights do not work, i changed the bulbs thinking easy solution and no luck, looked at fuse box but cannot see a fuse which just does the rear reg lights. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. 2. N/S rear brakes and pads had worn right down but O/S was fine, i have changed both sides, took the van for a run and the O/S started smoking and smelling like burning. What have i done wrong or do you think the caliper might be siezed? If it is caliper is therer a easy solution Please Please help if poss, i have until Wednesday to get it back in, dont fancy another £54 bill Incase it makes any difference the van is a Y reg |

Hi mate The number plate lights are wired through a copper contact plate at the bottom of the door (I seem to remember) so have a look and clean out any dirt and see if it does the trick..? The brake problem sounds a like siezed caliper - the original uneven wear was probably caused by the N/S working and wearing down while the the O/S was stuck. You might be able to free it off with some time and WD40 (don't get oil on the pads and clean any off the disc before you reassemble it though). Something I've done in the past to free a stuck piston, was take the pads out and CAREFULLY press the brake pedal just a LITTLE way down a few times until the piston starts to move again - then you'd need to wind it back in. BUT if you press too hard, or the piston gives suddenly it pops clean out of the caliper and you have problems and fluid everywhere..! Please be aware of this and if you try it you do it entirely at your own risk..!!! Changing the entire caliper is an easy enough job though, as long as you can get one in time. Good luck

its normally the sliders that stick, take calliper of and see if the sliders move. if not undo the sliders with the hex bolt in the end, take them out(prob need a hamer and punch to gentle knock them trough) then clean up the slider and the caliper where the slider came out from, re grease up the slider putting grease in the rubber sleeve and reasemble. remeber how to do this as you will be doing it every 6 months or so as its quite common for them to seize. |

Thanks for the answers, i have noticed that the rear reg lights do work, but noticed that the back door does not shut properly thus not making a connection to have the reag reg lights come on, do i just undo the 3 star bolts holding the hinge on the door to be able to move the door over by about an inch, if i can is it poss to just move the bottom part of the door as the top part cath fits perfectly into hole at top of door. Also another problem (wish i had not had the van now) the handbrake does not work properly, what is the best way to tighten it up, just my way to see if this fixes the problem, i will go take a picture of the underneath by the handbrake splitter part and put it on here so hopefully that might be of help for someone to help me. pic to follow |

sounds like your hand brake has seized on the side with the bad wear. you can free them off but i found that it justs seizes up again quite soon. best bet is to replace the caliper with another one, ebay normally have a few or send yours of to be reconditioned. with the reg lights dont adjust the door, take the terminal of and put a washer or two under it so they touch again, much easier apart from the brakes seizing there not bad vans really, most jobs can be done by a home mechanic. ive changed an engine, gearbox and overhauled the diff on mine all in the road outside my house with no special tools, just try to stay away from iveco dealers if you can as there not cheap. where abouts are you based Edited by gazzab1978, Aug 4 2011, 09:10 PM.
