Hi guys,
I'm trying to check/change the handbrake shoes on '55 reg 40c12. cable adjuster is almost at end of travel.
Stripped caliper, carrier, half shaft , the 65mm nut (462Nm....)and tagged washer.
Now it should just pull off, or what have I missed.
Even tried with a large puller/ slide hammer.. nowt.
Can't see anything else on the WIS

any suggestions?

And while I'm asking...
Handbrake adjustment.
I can get the star wheel to move in one direction (a long way) but not the other.
Does't seem to help move the shoes up at all

update now sort of sorted :D

it does come off but needs a lot of 'pull' using domed outer of half shaft

So did it thus:
1)Withdrew half shaft,
2)Stripped off brake pads and caliper,
3)Slackened h/b cable right off,
4)Adjusted h/b right off (just in case of wear ridges on drum)
5)Removed Axle nut and washer,
6)Made up 2 spacers fitting on stub axle but inside hub (spacers should be softer than axle stub but hard enough not to split)
spacers are 89mm dia 1st 10mm 2nd 14mm thick
7)Placed first spacer in position
8)Reverse half shaft and replace fixing bolts FINGER TIGHT ONLY
CAUTION! With the first spacer in place the bolts will only just grip. If not the spacer is too thick
9)Once all eight bolts in place tighten diagonally one nut flat at a time (or use 5ftlb torque wrench)
10)As disc is pulled off, all of first spacer is used up,
11)Undo all the bolts, place second spacer in hub and continue
12)Toward the end of the second spacer travel the hub will release
13)Withdraw taking care not to bruise threads on axle end.
14)Once off examine carefully, especially the oil thrower between the inner and outer bearings.

To replace:
Hub should push on firmly but squarely so as not to pick up on oil seal then reverse lines 5~1

BTW handbrake adjuster was v stiff Now good.

Hope this helps

Out of interest, what was the cause of stiff handbrake mech? Or what did you do that fixed it?

The star wheels were rusted on the threads and onto the shoes at both ends.
good clean and liberal copper-slip seems to have worked

Oh and making the star wheel adjusting tool helped. What a daft design!
The tool needs a surprisingly sharp and wide edge as the star is quite narrow and travels alot.
