Hi,

Does anyone here have the references for the rear wheel bearings for this axle? I'm sure that these unit bearings (sealed) can be found at a bearing dealer for 1/2 the Iveco price.

Looks like my 'new' 50C17 wasn't supervised correctly before.

By checking it after the purchase I found a lot of play on the driveshaft... Opened the differential case and found a badly worn bevel pinion... Swimming in French dressing mayonnaise... The last oil change (on the service book, at least) was in February and the truck was driven 40'000 km since... No more wonder why I felt some noise around 60 km/h.

This is the expensive consequence of a plugged vent hole on the axle... Air can always come in, but moisture doesn't go out.

I also found the right rear brake caliper seized, and front disks under minimum thickness. The truck has 350'000 km which is the mileage recommended to check the distribution chains...

***** (yeah, really five stars) to the Iveco agency who sold me the truck: After an illustrated description of the problems, they gave all the above parts for free!!! (front disk brake kit, both rear calipers, bevel pinion and ring gear, differential bearings and seals, plus a distribution kit... lot of $$$) and they lend me the tool to adjust the bevel pinion properly! They were not obliged to do that according to the sale contract.

Lot of work to do but so I'm sure it's done right. I'm touring with theater companies and I need a reliable truck. A tow, an Iveco repair and/or the rent of a replacement tractor is much more expensive than a maintained truck.

Cheers

Eventually found:

Bearing is SKF BTH-1011 DA... Hard to find except at Iveco dealer and expensive, even outside Iveco.

Seals are different on each side: One side (external) has a double seal and outer seal rotates with the center.

Cheaper versions don't have the same kind (and quality) of seal.

On my truck one was mounted in reverse... No comment. Re-building in progress.

Cheers
