Hi Hi, Have a 2.8 Daily which I brought a couple of months ago and have been touring europe in. Isn't in amazing condition but has been running great until today. Started fine this morning but after driving a few minutes the tachometer stopped working and it felt like it was missing. Pulled over to check for anything obvious under the hood causing problems (which I didn't see) and was very difficult to start. Any ideas? Seemed like the first tank of diesel I put inside in belgium it was lacking power. So I just filled it with BP Ultimate Diesel and some injector cleaner and hope to find some 2-stroke to add to the mix. As a side note, prior to departure I was fiddling with the steering coulumn electrics to look at the window wiper stalk dry solder.... but I dont think anything I did here would cause my current problem. Please help! Would like to fix myself if possible ASAP |

Hi, If it's tachometer, check wires to the connectors, which are located in the bottom left near the radiator (not related to hard starting.). If it's rev counter, it is possible that the crankshaft sensor to be faulty. |

Hi Basil thanks for your reply! I do not think that it is a wiring issue. It is the RPM gauge which stops working as soon as temp gets to 80 degrees (thermostat opens?) As soon as this happens the engine lacks power and stutters, feels like its running on 3 cylinders? Do you think that a faulty crank angle sensor could cause these problems? In addition to this it is hard very hard to start when it is warm and reading the board it sounds like this could be a crank angle sensor problem, so will see if I can find how to locate and replace this. |

It is a 2003.... Quite hoping it is the crank angle sensor as this seems like an easy fix. If I unplug it and start the van cold, would this be a way to test if this is causing the problem? Edited by Ben_Jamin, Jun 24 2012, 09:35 AM.

Hi, If you disconnect the sensor the engine will start difficult, regardless of temperature. It will only use the signal from the camshaft sensor. The crankshaft sensor is designed to send the signal of engine rotation to the EDC and the instrument cluster. When it starts to fail, the engine will start difficult when is hot. Sensor resistance is about 860 ohms at 20 degrees Celsius, but is not a precise verification. It remains to try by replacement. |

Thanks so much for the info - heading to an Iveco service place in Lyon day after tomorrow to try and buy said part and see how that goes... You dont happen to have the part number to make things a bit easier for me? Unfortunately I only speak a few words of French! Merci |

Sorry for the late reply - just back to civilization! Had the crank sensor replaced and it fixed these issues. Big thanks for the help with this! Side note that driving back to london today the km/h/mph gauge has just stopped working so must look into this now |
