Hi, Does anyone know what's occurring with my exhaust ; namely it's blowing white smoke every now and again, usually when at low speeds, 30/ 40 mph ... it's infrequent, and van is great condition generally .... I was told there's a device/ switch/ valve of some kind somewhere in the catalytic/ exhaust system that can sometimes be at fault ... any solutions greatly appreciated .. thanks Braindog |

My 2.3 diesel merc does this about once a month im told its the burn cycle of the cat.The garage said its fine its supposed to clean the cat of unburnt crap and force it out of the system by injecting fuel into the cat when its hot. Although Iv no idea of the van does this? |

My car does the same thing during a cleaning cycle for the particulate filter at such times I am to try and keep revs above 2000RPM. If the cycle is not finished when I turn car off it throws the dirty fuel in to the sump and my oil level rises. I had to take car in twice as the oil level had risen and gone thin one new sensor a cleaned out particulate filter and yet another oil change and it now works, oh and a software update. I asked if its a car or bloody computer running windows. White smoke during this process, and revs up to keep everything hot. |

Hi again, To answer Wills response .. it's a Daily 35S12 LWB 2.3 diesel, 2004 ... since I last posted, it's been unusually fine , but today the problem is back ... fine when I'm revving up a motorway, but when I'm going through a town, that's when it starts to happen ... interesting what JohnBF1 and Jay were saying ... is this cleaning/burn cycle a standard procedure ? it was like the Apollo 9 take off, when I dove through town today ... had to keep watching out for cops .. apologies for a late reply by the way , and thanks Braindog |
