Well after trying everything knuckled down and pulled head of..sure enough small end gone.......so engine coming out and spare to be fitted !! Thankyou for injector connector advice from mkampstra that worked..changed from 3 cyl and knock to 4 and knock, also to bazil for list of things to check, I had a diesel mech listen to it and he also thought injector or timing !! Anyways will put spare engine in taking my time to replace clutch release bearing ,crank oil seals etc as I go. Cheers and thanks to everyone on the site who has given advice or just shown an interest. The one thing that suprised me most on this was the fact the engine ran with the cam timing out about 5 degree and the crank about 7 or so, it was a lot noisier knock then but still not metallic so can only presume very good oil pressure! happy and safe driving to all regards Tractor Paul |

hi all well fitted replacement engine, had some trouble with starter motor not working only to find it was a bit of plastic jammed inbetween cables acting as an insulator, so when that was sorted knuckled down this afternoon to replacing front crank oil seal, timing belt and rollers, new alternator belt and fitted all the sundries that come of when you take an engine out, just fitted rad filled with water and thought it will probably take an hour or so bleeding it to get it to fire up. no just spun over four turns and fired up ! so will spend the next few weeks inbetween work going over everything thoroughly before it goes in for its test. If any one is considering an engine change on one of these my advice if like me you are doing it outside with no hardstanding personally instead of splitting and just taking out the engine ,which is ok in itself I would take out the gbox at the same time,or after, but mainly fit the box to engine before refitting in van as to realign is an awkward job with the box in (difficult on your own in a field!) it just depends on if you have a hardstanding to work on but would be easier as a complete unit.......and I think quicker overall. Thanks to Baz and Mkampstra all advice taken on and good to have, and off course to one and all who have sent advice or taken an interest. Will let you know end result when finished.regards Paul |
