just came back from the shops and went to pull up the handbrake an the lever came right up to the top of its travel distance something clunked when i pulled the handle up, the break is not on and the van rolls freely is it a new cable or has anyone had a similar problem. done an oil and filter change yesterday the van (07 reg 35S12 116hp) takes 5 liters of 5W30 full synth oil and needs a 12 mil hex drain plug, the plug cost me 4 euro and the oil (6 litres) and the oil filter was 62 euro |

just had a root around the underneath and i think ive seen the problem the handbreak cable terminates in a sort of metal bracket and there seems to be two break cables attached to this bracket the cable going to the driver side wheel has snapped at the caliper next question are they easy to replace and should i do both of them while im at it and what should i ask for when im calling the parts guy thanks |

I'm watching this as I did exactly the same thing this morning, gave the handbrake an extra tug as the van was creeping, a bang and the lever came up Drivers side as well, with the handbrake right up it still works with reduced effort on the nearside wheel.Single rear wheel van, I take it yours is the same Frank? |

Just to confirm, mine is a 3rd gen but I suspect the part are the same, I think the only real change between the models at this end of the van are cosmetic (lights etc) and bigger wheels. |

Vexi.co.uk and cheapivecoparts.com I fitted mine last night, handbrake much better but I haven't managed to get the two clips in where the cables cross the first cross member, also I think the clips at the hub ends were missing. The new cables didn't come with any clips so I was trying to re use the rusty old ones

Guys this just happened my van. Loaned the van to my dad today, think he may have been a bit more heavy handed than me with the lever; anyway received the van back only to find the lever now moves all the way to a position, I never knew was possible lol Just wondering how you guys got on with the install and anything worth mentioning or purchasing extra when doing the job? Haven't actually looked underneath yet it, was dark and wet here. |

the handbrake cable splits bit before the rear axle. if one side snaps / comes loose then handbrake lever will come all the way up, and brakes wont work properly, if at all i can think of 3 points of failure: where it splits, if one has came loose. the cable may have came away from the caliper the handbrake lever on the caliper is held in place by 1 bolt, if this has came loose, then lever will come off |

It's just snapped a half-cable. The hub end doesn't have a clip, you push the end of the cable into the hub until it's fully home. This end of the cable has an Oring on it, grease the oring to help it go into place. The inner part of the cable hooks onto a metal lever in the hub, you can connect this from the outside without stripping the hub. Fit the hub end first. Once that's in, do the chassis end. The end of the main, single cable is threaded, on it is a saddle that holds the 2 half-cable ends. Slacken off the 2 13mm nuts to wind this saddle towards the end of the main cable. This makes it easier to attach the half-cable end. Once the half cables are properly attached, wind the 13mm nuts back up to take the slack out of the cables. Don't worry too much about the metal clip on the inboard end of the half-cables, a good tywrap will do the job. |

Thanks for the replies. Indeed you were right, passenger side half cable had snapped, so I purchased 2 new cables from Iveco today [£28] and replaced both sides this evening; all went straight forward and have my handbrake working great now, in fact, feels much better than before. |

Drivers side as well, with the handbrake right up it still works with reduced effort on the nearside wheel.
