Most of my driving is motorway at 50-55mph and I have found the fan belt tensioner pulley bearings are just not up to the job, requiring replacement every 15-20000miles. You cant just buy the pulley and bearing (at least I haven't been able to) so tried a bearing from the cambelt when I had that changed. It self centres on the spring body and just lasts and lasts. Considering it had already done about 100,000 miles as a cam belt tensioner, it is now into 330,000 miles with no signs of trouble. And the belt lasts much longer as it is a sturdier item. I still check mine at regular intervals just to be sure. I bear no responsibility if you try it and it fails. All I can say is it works well for me. |
