hi guys for the past few months my van has been shuddering badly at low rpm in 1st and 2nd gear. its fine once am up to speed. really only does it coming out of a junction etc. i replaced a worn prop shaft bearing but didnt cure it. theres no play in the uj joints or anything else. a guy told me it could be the clutch. would this be possible. its not slipping so am not sure. |

Hi, Could Possibly be the Torsion Springs on the Clutch Friction Plate, these are designed to allow a small amount of controlled rotation of the friction surface in relation to the Inner Boss, this helps to dampen excessive loading caused if the clutch pedal is released abruptly. If the driver of the vehicle has been abusing the clutch by releasing the pedal far too quickly these springs will be repeatedly over stressed and eventually lose their tension and become slack within their carriers. This can also happen to particularly high mileage clutches in some instances. Just to be clear I'm not passing comment on your driving just trying to provide the information I can to help you to diagnose the fault as I do not know the history of your van. I've attached a photo showing the Torsion Springs as part of a Friction Plate Assembly. Regards, Jason |
