Hi, I have a 50 c14 5.2 ton 2006 mwb 3.0 It is just for my private weekend use and no commercial use at all I have been told it's best to remove the tacho as if I don't it will still have to be calibrated every two or possibly three years even though I don't need to use it So, is it just a case of unplugging it and removing from the vehicle, or is this a more involved job involving getting the ecu settings changed? I'm also thinking of downplating it to 3.5tons, but can't seem to find the unladen weight of the vehicle on the test plate The main reason for buying the van was to get one with as big an engine as I could in this size of van, rather than weight carrying capacity, as I do a lot of towing I know that Iveco made a 35 c14 mwb, so I can't see a downgraded 5.2 ton one would be much different in unladen weight? Any help/advice would be appreciated, thanks |

Why would you have to get it recalbrated every few years? |

I don't know, but a friend of mine has just had to get his done on a 7.5 tonner used for private use as part of his vosa test, it cost £60 odd pounds I believe. Apparently if it's not fitted it does not need any calibration, hence wondering how to remove mine |

4040, if I recall correctly you can tell the VOSA tester that you dont use the tacho as its for private use, you then sign a form with a tick box questionnaire as to why you think you don't need it, ie it is private use, not for hire or reward and does not exceed, including a combination weight of over 7.5 tons if you look on the website "Transports Friend" there is a section on there that explains the wording better!!! Our club has a 7.5 ton truck that we use for timing equipment and to carry the equipment and quad to saet out events, I took it for MOT a couple of years ago and had to sign one. |
