I realise this has been covered on the ivecodaily4x4 yahoo page, but the Gear Vendors overdrive solution (1356) is too expensive for me at $3000.

I could stick 9.00 R16s on the thing, they are to be found here in Ireland, but people have written that there's a price to be paid, if anyone cares to elaborate on that I'd love to hear, I think the fuel consumption rises?

I know nothing of Diff Ratios or Overdrives really, but I'll read and I'll learn in the next while.
Is there a diff from the normal Dailys that will sit in the 4x4 carrier? forgive me if my terminology is wrong.

or could another overdrive unit be modified to work with the transfer box

Gear up too much and your engine won't push it

Talking to a friend who has a 255/100's on a camper and he has to use 1st to start off every time so without spending some dosh to get more performace out of the engine then you'll not see the benefits of any changes to the gearing.

And of course you've got 2 diffs to do

Build the camper and see how it goes

Hi,

At 4x4 vehicle the gear ratio must be identical on both axes, if the rear axle differential fit from 4x2 Daily, you will never find a front axle differential with a different ratio of standard: 5.22/1, or 6.14/1.

The second option: fitting larger diameter tires - can be done by modifying all wheel arches, which involves welding and sheet metal work. There are 4x4 Daily with 255/100R16 tires.

The third option is to install an overdrive kit, which will only work in 4x2 mode and involves a lot of money.

You can search on Google after gear ratio calc. vs. speed, vs. wheel size, etc... so you will know what is most profitable option.

P.S. That overdrive kit on ebay is incomplete.

came across these units online, interesting and of a more reasonable price than the gear vendors parts. they look relatively compact
