What did you find with your van, made any improvements? I was out almost all day in ours and although much more powerful it really does seem to be more economical now which is always a plus.

Yeah there is a difference alright, I notice it quite a bit when cruising along in 6th and give it some acceleration. But noticable also up through the gears and throttle response seems sharper too. Can't say on fuel yet as I haven't done any long runs to test it.

I have a car to transport next week on a 16ft transporter, so I'll be able to check the difference in torque while pulling the trailer.

Sounds good to me, just wish I had your engine in our van to start with. Out of interest what is the difference in the engines between the 35c15 & 35c18?

35c18 has a different Turbo.

I believe the 35C18 has a Variable vain turbo, where as th 35C15 has a fixed vain turbo..... other than that I think they are the same!!

The "S" or "C" denotes Single or Double wheel rear axle

Single wheel on my machine then! Quite like the look of the double wheel though with the flared arches lol

Double wheels mean you can have a 7ton train weight.... Ie: Van = 3.5 ton + pull a 3.5 ton trailer, I'm not sure what the Single wheel train weight is!!

You can also tow 3500kgs with the 35 S 18

and a better payload than a "C" model

All of our vans (except our 1950 austin lorry) are crewcab pick ups so the 35c15 is spot on. The only downside is it can't carry as much weight as our transit crewcabs, legally that is. But it does pull like a train and the economy is way better than our transits. The only reason why I wondered about the engine being the same in the 35c15 & 35c or s18 is because you can get a tuning box for the 35c15 that takes it to around 220hp. I opted for the 186hp box just in case it stretched the engine too far. But perhaps it would be fine if its only the turbo that's different?

According to the Iveco Daily spec sheet in the 2008 brochure I have...

The 35 "S" 12/15/18...... All have a "gross train weight" (GTW) of 6300kg..... So can only tow a braked trailer upto 2800kgs

where as

The 35 "C" 15/18..... models have a GTW of 7000kgs..... So can tow a braked trailer upto 3500kgs (The 35C12 only has a GTW of 6500kg... not sure why!!)

Also on Ivecos website the new 2012 models are the same "S" Can tow 2800kg and "C" Can tow 3500kgs.... new models have 15/17/21 Engines instead of 12/15/18

I would Imagine 220bhp would be fine... the new 2012 daily has a 35 S/C 21 (210bhp) model, which is the same 3.0 litre engine with a twin stage turbo...
In a van or lorry more power means you dont have to rev or work the engine so much... So I would say More power is better!!

thats my opinion any ways.....

I'm just a little sceptical about the "tuning boxes" as aposed to the "ecu remapping" as I'm told the "tuning boxes" just trick the fuel system into over fueling the engine to gain power, which can cause other issues... Where as a "remap" changes the peramiters of the engines sensors and the ecu, and is a much safer way of doing it, also it can be customised to suit what you want.... IE: More power/more Torque or better MPG.... (these are not my words.... just what ive been told!!!!)

However I recently got a quote for a Remap for £400 and he needed the van for a day!....
A tuning box from the site you used is £100 and arrives next day and can be fitted in under an hour!!

So its swings and roundabouts!!

Just to add my bit, when you have a single rear wheel with a 3.0 engine, the train weight goes to 6500kg compared to 6300 with the 2.3. So Sudesh's van should have 6500kg as the train weight unless Iveco have adjusted the towing weights at some stage since the 2.8 was stopped.

I think that when the 35 s 18 comes out of the factory they are rated at 6300kgs gross train weight but when I bought mine I was asked did I want to upgrade it to 7000kgs (no extra cost) which I did.

Interesting chat! I didn't know all these differences before.

Is there a tag/vin plate anywhere on the vans that should indicate your train weight etc?

I have a tag/label that says 7000kgs with aload of other stuff written on it where the drivers door catches on the body. The label is on the body not the door. Its also says production date etc etc.
