Recently bought a secondhand Daily 05 plate. We have just had a service and new MOT. Every now and then regardless of wind conditions or payload, the van sways from side to side. This feels very dangerous and as if it would get worse and out of control. Very much like towing a trailer that starts snaking. Any clues?

I had a similar problem on my 2003 35S13 a few years ago.

I had a couple of new tyres fitted to rear and the van became horrible to drive. When changing lanes on the motorway it became unstable and continued to oscillate from side to side - it felt like driving on a knife edge. Moving into lane 1, where the trucks have created grooves in the road, was like a scary ride at Alton Towers. I was fully loaded at the time about to commence a 700 mile run fully loaded to Scotland and back. I was extremely concerned that I would put the van on it's side!!!

I swapped the wheels front to back and all was fine again. I would never have believed a set of new tyres could cause such a dramatic change in the way the van behaved if I hadn't experienced it for myself.

It might be worth doing a quick swap around and seeing how it effects things.

Torsin bar bushes won't cause this, but bottom ball joints (at the hub, not the chassis) will.
As will twisted/badly moulded remould tyres.

Check for play in the bottom (hub) balljoints.
