getting ready for a camper conversion and chearing out van before sending to be sprayed and then converted.

Want to remove the double seat but nervous of the wiring for the seatbelt tensioner. When seat removed what do I do with these wires (don't want the airbags to trigger by doing the wrong thing). Also I read somewhere if you disconnect them you get an airbag error light on dash.

Do I need to disconect battery to work on them. again dont want to trigger pretensioners or airbags

Hi,

Disconnect the battery, then wait 20 minutes to remove the connectors.
There is a plug, as a spare parts, containing a resistance to close the electrical circuit, thus no error will appear in board and aibag will function normally.
The resistance value is low, I think 1.2Ohm, or 2.1 Ohm, I can tell for shure.

Thanks for the quick response. Any idea what the part number for the terminating plug is?

Sorry, but I do not know. Currently I have some problems with my accounts at Iveco, I hope to remedy the situation as soon as possible. For that, I do not have access to the catalog of spare parts.

If you search SBMCC.co.uk, you may find the correct value and then you can use normal resistors from an electronics shop. Better to use the proper plugs though :)

thanks had tried searching their as well. I am sure I have seen somewhere but can't find it. If noone comes up with it will ask at my local iveco dealer in Belfast after the new year.

Tried them again today with photos of the wiring and seat. no joy. Does anyone know the resistance or the part number? just getting to stage I would love to give part number to guy just to show him.

Van coming together pick it up from spray oven tomorrow morning and start motorhome covenrsion proper.

Hi,

I am convinced that there is a resistor, as spare part, but I can not find it in the catalog. First, it is difficult to search for parts if you do not have the VIN No, secondly, the logic of the parts catalog is a little strange, it is a long story...
This spare part was requested in 2006 by a bodybuilder and at that time I searched a lot, but we finally found it. It is possible that in the meantime they have changed the catalog.
A few days ago, I asked a friend to measure that resistor, his answer was 4.3 Ohm, but I'm not convinced this is the corect value.
Remember, the airbag system is very sensitive, any improper intervention or bad measurement on the system may trigger the airbags and can cause accidents.
Front on anything, disconnect the battery negative then wait 20 minutes.

Edit,

If you adapt a common resistor make sure it has a minimum of 1W power.

We remove airbags/belts regularly and never had one go off. Yes, there are manufacturers procedures for disconnecting, there isn't a bodyshop in the country who follows them!

The airbags are sequenced through the ECU, you can't set them off by shorting them out or powering them up, they need a sequenced pulse to activate them. Unplug the wiring, get a multimeter and measure the resistance through the tensioner. Whatever that resistance is, that's the value resistor you need for the ECU to see a 'normal' status.

I know it's not the neatest option, but when we swapped our double seat for a single passenger one we got a resistor (big fat 1W one, though its probably not needed) and crammed it into the socket, then covered with plenty of tape. Works well so far.

Can't remember the exact resistance, but I think it was 2 ohm.
Doesn't seem to matter, I tried lower resistances and basically stopped at the one that didn't set off the airbag warning message.

thanks guys will try later in week. If I get the right resistor will the light just go out or do I need a computer to reset?

Well as I said when I did mine it displayed a message on the cluster display of "WARNING: passenger airbag failure" or something along those lines. The message would appear every time you turned the car on (same way the 'door open' and AFAIK other warning messages appear). It stopped appearing as soon as I found the right resistor.

It'd probably still be in the memory that it had a 'failure', but so far its given me no problem, and I've been running it in this setup for several months now.
