Hi I have browsed the forum looking for an answer to the problem I have with my vehicle but no luck so maybe some one here can help. I have a 2008 Iveco 50c18 crew cab 3l motor that I use for towing a fifth wheeler caravan that weights about 3 t loaded , my problem is when I tow the van the temperature gauge keeps going up to the 3/4 mark and then the fan cuts in and the gauge comes back down to the 1/2 way mark this happens about every 5 minutes but never seems to happen when I'm not towing unless I'm in heavy traffic. Does anyone think it just needs a new thermostat or could it be more involed and need to be taken to the Iveco service center. Thanks in advance Jebs PS I'm in Australia |

Mine does this towing a heavy trailer. It shouldn't be too difficult to fit an over-ride switch to keep the fan on if you'd rather it didn't keep cutting in and out, with a switch in the cab to go between 'on' and 'auto' |

Hi JEBS, Mine van is also a 50c18, carrying a 1 1/2 ton or so at all times, and the first time it has ever gone higher than 1/2 way, was last week when they recorded the hottest day on record in Sydney, the van was reading ambient temp of 39deg, A/C on, and was overtaking up a hill a bit north of 100, and it went halfway between the 1/2 and 3/4 marks. Other than that, it barely ever moves a whisker above 1/2, loaded or not. |

You could check your radiator is flushed through and that its fins aren't clogged with dust and insects, this would reduce its cooling ability. Also check that airflow through the grill isn't blocked by extra lights etc, and there is also meant to be a fan shroud that directs air through the rad. My van had some light front end damage at some point and it appears this was broken so is missing, the gap between the fan and rad is open to the engine bay. |
