Hi folks, our 1998 daily camper has a pain of a sliding door as the bottom bracket seems to have lost the lower runner and is always sliding out and falling off. The brackets (complete ones) seem like hens teeth in scrap yards and new are a ridiculous price. Has anyone seen or ever replaced the sliding door with a different hinged door or have any advice? |

Hi, I'm in exactly the same situation. I'm currently sitting in the draft from it, with the added issue of being in France where the doors are on the wrong side, so definitely none in scrappies. I wondered about hinging it, but aside from anything technical I think it would open far too wide to be practical. I'm now contemplating trying to get a caravan door or similar to fit over the top but concerned that might be a bit serious as the frame of the van would have to be cut above the door opening, across the join between the steel & fibreglass. Don't know if there's an obvious fix we're missing here?!? Sorry, I realise this isn't any real help. Anyone else? |

Hi, I share your pain! lol, someone must have done it before, hopefully we will both get some help. Am asking a friend next week who is an expert welder and am sure he will come up with something so will keep you posted. |

I have replaced mine with a caravan door albeit on a 49.10 but it could still be done on any van I would imagine. First off I welded up a frame from 1" box steel to fit the caravan door frame. I then fitted a sheet of aluminum (1.2mm white faced) and cut out the door shape. Then fitted the new door. It wasn't a 2 min job though!. |

Hinged door... My door gives serious problems toooooo I have looked at making hinged too, but the curve on the body side makes it difficult, the hinge centerline needs to acomodate this, so the hinge would have to stick out quite a long way.... think this could be a MOT fail? |

The hinges as you say do have to compensate for the curve of the body but I doubt it would be an MOT fail. many vans have hinged side doors. Hinges of various sorts are available from commercial body building suppliers. Do a search online. It would be a big job but not impossible. Look at old Transits (mk1) and 608 Mercedes for inspiration. Graeme |

Could an engineering shop/metal fabrication place not use your old bracket to make up a replacement? Missing rollers could be made out of polyeurethane? Probably too expensive for a one-off but if given a small order of say 5 units it might be worth their while?! |

Yes, luckily I have found someone who can make a new roller and I had a spare bracket too. Would have liked a hinged door but this makes things easier! |

If you are really into doing a but of panelwork the rear door is the same shape / Contour so if you could mount the hinges securely enough and get the weather seal sorted it could work I was looking at this option for one of mine since we don't have side doors on ours. |
