On the way to the petrol station..... I ran out of fuel in the lorry, on half of a quarter of a tank. (in the last marker)

Luckily I had a big diesel can and walked to get fuel, filled her up, and with help on the phone from my mechanic she picked up the fuel and went. Cancelled the breakdown!

The light had been on for ages, probably from half a tank but I had ignored this, bad mistake.

Is the light coming on early a normal problem, and is it worth looking into the gauge problem or just be careful how low I let it go? Its obviously not quite right!

I will not let it go below a quarter again! Its a horsebox and obviously I am not mechanically minded! :o

If i remember correctly my low fuel light used to flicker and come on at different points on the gauge. Quite simillar to the 35c11 i have now!! Anyway all i used to do was dip the tank and then i knew for deff how much was left.

Came across this searching for something else - I ran out (I believe, there were other issues, so may not have been the case, but I think the fuel cut-off wiring becoming disconnected happened after) on a steep up-hill section with the gauge previously showing around a quarter and the light not on.
