Good idea on hiring , might look into that. My main decision is whether to go for the "O" licence / tacho or stick with 3.5t. Vosa emailed me last week with the answer to my query ; " Do I need an "O" if I want to tow with a 3.5t " . I knew I would need a tacho , but not sure about the O. They replied saying I did ! Today I asked them why I see so many 3.5t towing car trailers with no O displayed , also , why Iveco advised me I did'nt need one !

Yes awkward isnt it, apparantly you can tow up to 3500kg trailer if its towed by a dual purpose vehicle.........ie landrover, with no o licence, appropriate driving licence and Tacho being used, Hmmm so would a iveco van part living space part van be classed as dual purpose???I have gotta get an answer on that, just taken towbar off of my truck for the same reason,no arguments that way! but really still need the capability of towing Grrrrrrrrrr, this country is really getting big brother , dont get me wrong all for vehicles being in proper roadworthy condition ,serviced etc but its killing small business . paul.

What if I carried a cool-box with some choc ices in , put a icecream cornet on the roof , do you think I'd get away with that as a dual-purpose vehicle ?!
My son is taking my father home to Spain Monday , might ask him to see if they apply the same rules there. If not , might look into registering the vehicle there. (I really want to do the Spain - UK - Spain route , but need to be able to transport two cars to make it pay).
Be interesting how VOSA reply to my questions , will update when they do.
