Hi all, Im new here so excuse me if any of the following is daft. I just got a 06 plate 35c18 to replace my 03 plate 35c13. I run a race team so need a van to tow my 3 ton trailer and workshop facilaties when at the track. I have a few questions relating the newer van. When I picked it up (empty) I reset the mpg and bourght it home on a combined run for 100 miles, I only got 23mpg driving it briskly (as most people do). In the mean time Ive done a combined run driving like Miss Daisy and am struggaling to see 30mpg. Is this normal or do I have a fault of some description? I removed the digital tacho from the 03 plate van (for towing), can I fit it to the 06 plate van? and what do I need to do to fit it?? I would love to have cruise control on the newer van, can it be done? and does anyone have a wiring diagram for cruise?? Overall im happy as its a tidy van and goes very well but I want to sort these issues before fitting it out for work. Thanks Ben Hello again, just found another post relating to the cruise control. My question now is does any one have a wiring diagram as I want to put seperate switchs in rather than a stalk. Thanks Ben Edited by bena36, Mar 2 2013, 08:02 PM.

Hi Ben . I own a 35C10 Car transporter , average 28mpg , so I think your figures are about right. Reference the towing of a car trailer. What I understand , and please double check this , is ; 1. Towing a car to a "Track day" , where you are paying to use the track and NO prizes are awarded. Trailer under 1020kg I think. = No tacho , O licenec or drivers CPC. 2. As above , but tacking it to a race where there is a chance of winning a prize. = Tacho , O licence , and drivers CPC required. Have asked VOSA to clear these facts up , but they just refer to their online PDF file !!! Another way to look at it is ; You are towing a friends car who IS NOT paying you . = 1. You are towing a friends car who IS paying you . = 2. If you tow using a dual purpose vehicle , 4x4 , camper etc , there are exemptions. As I have said before , double check this info with VOSA . |

Welcome If Its a racing 'team'... Is it a buisiness?? if its a buisiness then I think you need tacho! As far as fitting your old Tacho goes..... Are you sure its a digital tacho as they where not fitted to vehicles until 2006, unless it was retro fitted to your 2003 after 2006, I would think its a analog tacho with digital display.... If it is digital: ![]() ![]() It may be poss to fit to new van, but it will have to be done by a Tacho centre, as it has to be calabrated and also it stores vehicle details on it (at present it will have your old vans details).... also you will need the gearbox sensor and wiring. ******************************************************************************************************************** If its analogue: ![]() ![]() Its useless to anyone or anything except your old Van Tacho's (retro or factory) fitted to vehichles after Mid 2006 MUST be digital (IE takes credit card type smart card)... You will need willl need to have Digital one fitted (£500 + ) also you need to get software and hardware to read it and keep records (£300+) You also have to download Digicard records 2 weekly, and tacho records monthly!! Fuel consumption seems normal I have 35c15's they get Avg 25mpg solo or 19mpg with trailer.... If I drive like daisy I can get up to the Late 20s (Solo) Why do you want seperate switches for cruise??? Edited by benno1976a, Mar 3 2013, 12:18 AM.

Our 56 plate 65c17 came with an analogue cassette tacho, the type where you press the eject button and a drawer opens, in which you put a paper chart. At it's first test, we were told it should have a digi fitted, even though it came from the factory on analogue. We fitted a digi tacho, and also had to change the clocks to suit it. Can't remember exactly, but the total price was over a grand. I'd be surprised f an 03 reg van had a digi fitted, they weren't compulsory until 2006, and they're not desireable, due to the fact they're not as easy to MPG wise, my advice is that the trip computers are crap, work it out based on how much you put in and how many miles you've done. Cruise control, do a search here, it's well documented. Pretty much, there's a multi-plug already in the loom for a cruise control stalk, it's simply a case of fitting the stalk and plugging it in. Piece o piss. As it happens, I've got a cruise control stalk for sale
