Anyone here got one?
Are they still in production in Europe?
Are there many about in Europe?

They looked pretty good (on paper :P ) when they were launched, decent engine with bags of power, 6 speed, rear diff lock. But the UK launch was postponed, and postponed then cancelled altogether.

I've got a Defender and was interested in this Massif when all the promo stuff was in the dealers, never got chance of a test drive though. I see them pop up for sale on Mascus.com every now and again, usually for a stupid price though (£35-40k).

That was the downside at the time I was looking at them, the exchange rate wasn't good, they would have cost a fair bit more than a new Defender.

What's the crack?

Yes, just bought one. Other than the slipping clutch issue I have right now, this vehicle is fit for purpose. I woukld say that there are some "quality issues" on the interior, but for the rest she will be good for the intended purpose. Great amount of torque, far better than the 2.5TDI Landrover. Holds 125 to 130 kph easily and comfortably (comfort however being a relative terms).
Suspension hard, but OK when loaded and tyre pressures correctly set accordingly.
My use: Desert and sand dumne trips - turning it into atwo seater fulltime overlander vehicle.

Interesting trip this last weekend - 2009 Massif 3.0 HPI. Dune discovery trip with support vehicles.
The vehicle has the original BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tyres on, not designed for sand dunes!
I chose to run the tyres at 0.5 bar (about 7.5 psi). Also fairly laden with camping gear, 2 up.
Temperature, high 30's, sand soft and deep
The Massif ran like a tractor, tyre pressure was good, did not get stuck at all, and with the available torque was able to keep up with the v8 Landcruiser running sand tyres (not in speed, but climbing ability)
Whilst the tyres are clearly not perfect, they not only did the job, but outperformed my expectation, as did the vehicle. Expect to be able to run the tyres at 0.9 bar next time, reducing the risk of the tyre bead breaking loose.
I did encounter one problem, I am not sure if it was a turbo overheat of over speed but the EDC light came on and flashed, lost the turbo boost completely. After shutting down, allowing to cool off and a restart 15 minutes later, all back to normal.

1) Can anyone explain the EDC warning for me
2) what are the recommended code readers for these engines?

Hi,

During vehicle operation, the engine ECU (EDC) can detect a range of faults that can be electrical faults, or may be the result of (the effect produced by) mechanical or hydraulic failure. These defects are stored in EDC memory and are displayed as a warning lamp on the instrument cluster.
The warning lamp may blink, which means that a fault has occurred. The symptom can be the reduction of engine torque, or without symptoms. The warning and symptoms may disappear, in some cases, by stopping the engine.
The warning lamp stays lit, meaning that there appeared a serious defect. The symptom can be reduction of engine torque, or stopping the engine. These defects may be accompanied by MIL warning lamp.

E.A.SY. diagnostic instruments, it is genuine IVECO. It can be found on the market, but only counterfeit, or cracked version and very expensive.
TEXA for trucks, also very expensive.
AUTOCOM for trucks, I am not aware of details.
FiCOM diagnostics, also I am not aware of details, but some members have bought this tool.

I have full Texa package, a friend has JalTest and another friend has the Bosch Truck. They need my Texa to do some jobs on their Iveco's, which suggests the Texa is more indepth for Iveco.

That said, it's still not brilliant on Iveco. Can't do forced re-gens, can't do speed limiters.

For the cost of the ELTRAC/EASY you can pay for a LOT of trips to the dealers. IIRC we priced a Chinese Clone at around £3.5k.

My Texa was £7k, but it gets used daily in to workshop on all different motors.
