In my dashboard there are 2 12v sockets, one is the cigarette lighter socket, and I have no clue what the other one is. I thought it might be a Hella/Merit (Wikipedia says they're called Powerlet in EU) sockets, but the plug I have is in no way similar. Can anyone tell me the name of the other socket? |

I have seen a list (inc pictures) before of all different types of sockets, but can't find it. Think it was on wikipedia. However, if its got 12v on it, I'd rip it out and replace with the type of socket you use normally Its useless to you anyway!P.S A picture speaks a million works. |

Yeah, should have posted pics to begin with. ...The weird thing is, when I went out and took a much greater look at it, it looks near identical to the lighter socket, and the lighter itself also fits. I then tried the USB adapter which currently lives in the lighter socket in it, and it also fits. My dad says his lighter plug for his camping fridge didn't fit though. The second socket has a cap with: (..) MAX 180W Does this mean its simply a more heavy duty lighter socket? Hi Its just a normal 12 volt socket the same as the lighter socket ! (only does not have a lighter element ) in there and they put a cover over it to stop bits dropping in (like a small coin) and it is rated at 15 Amps. Radiotwo |

Agree with that! I wired mine so that it always has 12v supply, because if you wanted to leave a phone on to charge, or in my case, leave a dash beacon on while double parked/towing etc, the socket will power off after a 10mins or something. |

Thanks for confirming it is actually a lighter socket (just without the actual cigarette lighter capability). Guess I'll just have to find my Dad a different lighter plug for his fridge then. Edited by lameboyadvance, Mar 28 2013, 04:36 PM.

Hi Again Not too sure what you mean "you will have to find a different plug for your dads fridge" the problem there is if your dad has a plug to fit his socket and you change it it might not fit his socket ! although they do something like this: (Not a very good example) http://www.ozautoelectrics.com/accessory-plugs-and-sockets/hella-2-pole-cigarette-lighter-din-plug-universal.html I have got the type of plugs that do both, but you usually find the smaller one is for 24 volts, that they have in trucks Radiowo |

He told me his fridge's lighter plug didn't fit the socket (haven't seen it myself). It's an old fridge so unlikely to have any other kind of plug besides a lighter one. Maybe it just needs a different (less bulky?) lighter plug on it instead. |

Well I've finally seen the plug of his fridge and tried it in the sockets, and it turns out that since the lighter sockets in the Iveco are apparently shallower than older ones, and it's a 2-in-1 merit/lighter plug on the fridge, the grounding pins are too far back on the plug and don't make it into the socket. I've got a heavy duty merit plug to lighter socket adapter here. Going to swap the merit plug for a lighter one with ground pins closer to the tip, that way he can either use future lighter plugs directly in the socket if they will fit, or in the adapter it they're too long. |
