Hi the timing belt is due on my daily, it's an 05 reg 2.3hpi engine, can anybody give me some pointers into changing it, is it a case of stripping the whole front off, lights front panel, then the rad/intercooler to make room? I've done many a timing belt on other van/ cars but its always handy to have some tips first, thanks.

Had mine done in Spain a couple of years ago, took two Iveco mechanics 3.1/2 hrs to do. From memory, they took off the intercooler, but not the rad, the rest of the front end was untouched, they did most of it from the engine bay, and a bit from under the van. Is there anything on youtube?
Not much help I'm afraid, but if you've done belts before, you should be OK, mine also had the tensioner and bearings changed at the same time.

Ok thanks for your replies, I understand you don't have to undo the big crank bolt as the actual auxiliary belt pulley is bolted to the crank pulley with 4 bolts?, so by removing the bolts and pulley it exposes the belt to be removed?, also I believe the injector pump doesn't need timing as it high pressure ?, thanks.

hi, i'm new to this forum with my 4th gen 2.3HTP. i am also planning a timing belt exchange in some 15k. sofar i have been told to do the water pump as well. i had the air condition filled today, so i hope i wont have to disconnect the AC pipes when unmounting the front. i have also done a few timing belts before, but my last Van, Renalut Master 2,5 DCi 120, tought me, that some times proper tools might come in handy... how is iveco standing? will i need some special expensive tools, or can they be, lets say, home made or something? are there any instructions to set the belt correctly, or is it more like intuitive? thanks for any information

Hi,

Data are correct, except the mark on the crankshaft. The markings on the shafts gears must match with the markings on the belt.
The mark on camshaft sprocket should be at 12 o'clock.
The mark on the crankshaft sprocket must be at 9 o'clock (in drawing this mark is shown at 10 o'clock, due the drawing limitations in 2D).
Actually the crankshaft should be locked with a pin... a special IVECO tool.
It necessarily to follow the procedure for adjusting the tensioner.

Well I changed it today, took about 3 hours pissing about. I managed to do it without taking the front of the van apart, just unbolted the alternator and then the electro fan, rested the fan where the alt is and undone the 8 10mm bolts that hold the black plastic fan on, then removed that out the top and the fan housing out the side where the alt would be. I tried undoing the 4 11mm bolts that hold the aux pulley onto the crank pulley but it wouldn't separate, so I undone the 19mm crank bolt and removed the 2, but by doing this it pulls the pulleys off the crank itself and the belts jumps off "so be warned".

Then I pulled the fan housing out the top, after removing the top turbo hoses first. Next was engine cover off, remove the cam belt tensioner and the belt, luckily enough for me which is pretty much unbelievable the timing was dead on!! well cam shaft anyway, the groove was at 12 o'clock, then I separated the aux and crank pulley in the vice and knocked the small centre spacer out and cleaned it up. Then I fitted the crank pulley back on the crank with the spacer at the front then the crank bolt, it does has a little peg in the crank itself that locates in the back of the toothed pulley, also it uses a woodruff key which helps a lot.

So at this point its a good job to make sure the camshaft groove in the pulley is pointing up at 12 o'clock and the small toothed crank pulleys groove should be at 9 o'clock, after you've done this remove and replace your toothed roller from the kit, then the new belt and timing the white marks on the belt with your cam/crank shaft pulley grooves, fit tensioner and tension belt. I didn't use the info on my last post to tension, simply because when i timed it up like this the belt was all sloppy and I wasn't happy at that so I tensioned it by feel as I was confident that from doing many a timing belt over the years you do get a feel for things, (well hopefully !!) I then turnt the engine over a fair few times and rechecked tension, once your happy fit everything back in reverse order, don't forget to tighten your crank pulley bolt up before you fit the fan housing etc for room purposes.

This is a brief description of what to do but don't hold me responsible if something goes wrong :) use it at your own risk.
