Hi folks.
Just bought myself an ex-police 45C17 with 113k on it.
Its Nov 06 registered with a 3ltr 16V engine.

The main beam fails to function from either the column stalk rotary switch or the pass mode.
I've got current into and out of the column switches and current through the fuse holder on n/s & o/s circuits but nothing down at the lamp holders.
I'm not sure where the current goes after the fuse panel, or if it goes via a relay somewhere but I'm damned if I can see any cut or missing wires anywhere.
The harness has many modifications from police fitments and I see where theres been hardwired soldered connections to the main beam wires on the rear of the fuse holders but I cannot see any other connections or alterations anywhere that would affect the high beam.

Has anyone any experience of ex-police main beam wiring modifications or how the wiring has been adapted or returned to regular service?

I cannot find any technical or electrical info anywhere for my specific model of van and the cd'c on eBay don't mention a MK3 45C17 either so I'm at a loss of how to correctly identify my exact engine type etc as well as find the correct electrical diagrams or circuit info.

Does anyone have a photo of the front view of a fuse panel showing the relay that controls the lights because I cant locate it and a panel diagram on here doesn't correspond with my fuse board..

Thank you.

Hello there

The fuses control the lights indiviually, so if they're both out it probably is the relay. Relays for the headlamps are all controlled by the electronic pack that mounts in the upper steering column as far as I know. This contains all the relays for the lights and indicators etc and, unless you're an electronics whizz, you'll be unable to change the mini relays that are soldered onto the board. I did try, when I had a similar problem with my dip beam suddenly failing and discovered the only way to repair it was a new pack complete (around £200 on eBag)

Hope that helps

Cheers

We've found with them packs that it usually burns the earth out, the wire isn't heavy enough. We soldered new terminals in with a heavier earth - problem solved.
