Can anyone tell me if I buy another barrel and keys and the key reader from a breaker will I still need to get the key programmed to the vehicle or is it just matched to the key reader ?

Hi

As an alternative you could get an auto locksmith to 'copy' the new key blade & 'clone' the original transponder onto a replacement key you would then only need to change the barrel.

Is it your lock that's broke or your key

Hi John.
Something broke inside the barrel this morning, i could get the ignition on but wouldn't turn any further to engage starter motor, managed to trace some wires and Hotwire the ignition flick to get me home
I've removed the ignition barrel and oiled it and then the key would only go half way on before it started to get stuck
Gave up messing with it
I know I can just change the barrel and tape my key to key reader, but not great for security

If you can get a barrel and key from a breaker then you just need to prise the old key apart and slide out the transponder chip and put it in the new key, one of my spare keys is cracked and i've dropped the transponder from it once, a few minutes of panic 100 miles from home but luckily i found it on the floor!!
