I have a 2002 2.8 diesel turbo. I parked in a school car park to drop the children off. When i returned, the engine would not start. Sprayed east=start into intake and it runs as it should. Turn off with the key, try to start again and it just turns over but wont start. Can anyone help? |

First thing to check would be te fuel pump in the chassis either have some one go underneath the vehicle find the round electrical fuel pump inside the chassis rail on the left hand side by the gearbox and listen to see if it buzzes when the ignition is switch on , not cranking just ignition on or sit the cab turn the ignition on and listen very carefully to the noise of the pump you should also hear a relay click as the pump switches its self off again , if you don't hear anything then hit the pump it should work but even if it does you would need to replace it |

We've seen this with crank sensors. The engine will run off a cam sensor, but won't start off it because the engine doesn't crank fast enough. The ECU needs the crank signal to start. Quick squish of aerostart gets the engine fast enough for the cam sensor to make a good signal - engine runs. Switch off, same problem. Get a tyre lever or similar, crawl underneath and see if you can lever the flywheel back and forth. To check for a leaking injector: When the engine won't start, unplug one injector at a time. When you unplug the bad one, the engine should still start on 3 cylinders. A leak-off test is better mind, this is just a quicker way of checking. Edited by cieranc, Jun 24 2013, 10:38 PM.

Quick check on crank sensor is rev counter working ? Injector does sound a good bet but if its leaking pressure it will need more than unplugging a pressure will to be able to build , if you can get an old fuel pipe cut the injector union off and braze it then fit it to the rail in place of one injector pipe at a time if it starts then there is you problem |
