Hi,

I have a 35s12 2004, it is my first vehicle so I have little mechanical experience/knowledge but am keen to learn.

The rear drivers side wheel has started to squeak quite loudly and repeatedly as the wheel turns, from 0-20mph, whenever I make the slightest turn to the right. It eases when I press the brake pedal, or drive straight or left.

Can anyone help me identify the cause, as a friend suggested it could be the brakes or the wheel bearings, and so I'm unsure. I'm driving round france in a couple of weeks and would like to sort it out.

Thanks in advance

Mike

Sounds like rear brakes, possibly just brake dust. Try blowing compressed air around the caliper , or spray some water from a hose pipe. If this fails , take off the wheels and check the caliper is sliding ok. Common problem is the slider boots come off and the sliders start to seize , if this is the case , dismantle the caliper and clean and grease the sliders.

Didn't see the bit about France. I'd get all the wheels off now , check all the brakes , hoses , bearings etc. Also , give all the tyres a good look over while they are off. Change oil , filter , fuel filter etc. Check/change gearbox and rear diff oils. Check water hoses all ok , fan belt , wiper blades etc.
Make sure you have a wheel brace that fits the nuts , jack big enough for the job too.
Take spare bulbs and fuses, high viz for all , breath test kit , warning triangle. These are mandatory in France , they give you on the spot fines if you haven't got them !
Also , if you take a sat nav , disable the speed camera warning , again , another on the spot fine.
Saying that , I have driven all over France/Europe over the last 32 years , Never been stopped ! But be very careful if driving in Spain , they are on a mission at the moment of giving out fines for anything !! NO Flipflops !
I would also take a Iveco Number for France , in case you need spares.
