Don't think it'll be mounting sounds like it could be slack in diff noise transfering up prop back to gearbox and if you've got 6speed box then 1st is more than likely gonna be for setting off on hills and fully loaded when empty my 5speed is shite in 1st it don't do much more than yours speedos are about 5mph out

nothing no clunking if i feed it out easy, pull up handback and leave out clutch fast and banging from back axel...checked back axel for oil today and its up to the level...can the shaft to the back axel be adjusted (backlash) tighten up there maybe slack in it...
thanks again

I agree, sounds like slack at propshaft/rear diff. I think the backlash is adjusted by inserting shims but if it's bad it might be beyond adjustment. Think you'll need a pro to check it.

hi all, got to have a good look under van today, happy to say not anything to do with back axel bearly a bit of movement in propshaft when turning with handbrake up and and out of gear...half way up the prop shaft there is a rubber joint which is perfact but about 2" a past that there is a rubber mounting and it is fully perished and stop the shaft from going up and down and that is causing the banging noise...will get one tomorrow think that will slove thanks

Me too! Exact same symptoms, noises. Sounds like directly under cab area, going to have a look tomorrow. Ryan has this solved the clunk? Where and how much was the parts required?
Any info much appreciated.

Me too, same problem, when I change gear or rapidly lift accelerator I get that thud under the cab, can you let us know where it was and how much the part was, also which side are you talking about gearbox side or rear axel side.

Had my mechanic have a squiz today. Got a loose universal joint on the prop shaft. Although it sounded like it was directly under the cab its actually about halfway down the vehicle.
Following the prop shaft from the gear box you come to a bearing carrier. basically a bearing held in rubber attached to underside of vehicle. Then a ridged gaitor, immediately followed by a universal joint. After this joint the shaft is then uninterrupted all the way to the rear axle. This joint is loose/worn/clunking. He showed me by lying under the propshaft and pushing up just backwards of this joint and the there is quite a lot of movement and clunking. Almost exactly the same noise I hear just not as loud? So this is looking like the culprit. Mechanic is now sourcing a replacement. 2nd hand complete shaft is easiest option but no idea of condition till you get it and no doubt new is going to break the bank knowing Iveco!!
Keep you posted. ;)
