Hi all. The van 56 plate Iveco Daily 35s12 HPI 2.3. I had a problem a few days ago 3 miles away from home, where the van cut out cruising at 60 with red injector light lit, it then started, I drove a further mile and it cut out again, again it started I drove about 1/4 mile and the same again. I started again and got home with no further problems. I have read through similar problems here on the forum and decided to get it booked in to Days Iveco in Swansea for a diagnostic check, my question is, how long does this diagnostic test take? they have quoted 1.5 hours at £117+VAT!!!! Any thoughts ? What do I get for my money? Edited by shaun1d, Apr 25 2014, 10:18 AM.

Well I know most places charge around £150 for the hour. In reality I guess they'll hook it up to a diagnostic computer and just leave it idling for the hour, and then the tech. will come and read the fault codes (if any are produced). I'm always wondering if this type of diagnostic is prone to poor fault finding as opposed to driving the vehicle whilst hooked up to diagnostic machine. Maybe they will do this, perhaps you should ask them what the test involves before parting with your money? |

Hi, The scientists have not yet invented a device that can tell you exactly what is defective in any circumstance. There are no such devices for vehicles, or for something else. The diagnostic tools can be more accurate, or not, can have multiple test functions or not, this is what makes the difference between them. No matter how sophisticated is the diagnostic tool, it has no value without a technician who has extensive knowledge and experiences the in these vehicles. No matter how experienced is the technician, he will diagnose blindly without the diagnostic tool. The repair times* are created by the manufacturer, not by your dealer and they were timed in the factory condition (ideal condition), on new vehicles, without rust, or dirt, or with stuck screws, etc.. In many cases, the dealer can lose money if is not properly equipped. Also the manufacturer offers and then requires to the dealer to comply with work procedures or diagnostic procedures. A diagnosis can take 10 minutes (not repair time*), or even days with checks, complex tests, simulations, etc. What you get, may be a solution to the fault, or nothing, it depends on the dealer. N.B.*____ The term of "repair time" must be understood as Service Labor Time (SLTs) |
