Got my 35s14 2006 rear axle apart again, changed the bearings on all of this before thinking the clunking noise was due to collapsed bearings. Turned out it wasn't and there was play in the planet/sun gears inside the diff. The van had to go back together at the time to be used. This was about 2 years and only 3000miles ago. I got a rear axle with a nackered wheel bearing off ebay in a last min auction for £30 with the intention of changing out the diff for my knackerd one. When I stripped mine down the half shaft splines are now about 50% worn, it wasn't like that 3000 miles ago!. I had used some Lucas truck diff oil I was given by a friend that I don't think was quite as thick as the Iveco tutela stuff, would this be the cause of the wear?.

Anyway now its apart my knackered diff is a 13/49 and the one out the ebay axle is a 12/47, in what way will this affect the driving of the van, will it mess up the speedo?. The van as it was was good on the motorway, 80/90mph no bother without screaming its head off. I can handle a small increase in revs as long as it can still do 70mph without screaming it, but if im in top gear at 40mph and its reving like mad at 55mph I wouldn't want that. How much of a difference will this be?. Could I just unbolt the crown wheel off one diff and bolt it onto the other?.

Yours is 3.76 and the other is 3.91. It won't gear it down that much, possibly 4 or 5 mph at 2500rpm and i'd say about +1mpg

Thanks AMquadracing turned out I couldn't get the other diff in with any combination of the spacer rings. Ended up taking them apart and using planet and sun gears from the eBay one to repair my original and put it back in with the original spacers. The wear on these gears was unreal!. The two diffs were different inside as well, mine with 4 little gears inside and a single shaft and the other with 6x gears and two shafts (one split through a metal box in the centre).
