Hi from Belgium, I have a 40c13 Car Transporter. When there is 800-1000kg on the car I have no problems, but when the weight is 1200kg and more, and especially with a charged car trailer behind, the misery begins. In 1st, second and 3th gear the whole truck is shaking/trambling. When I go to 4th gear everything is back to normal. Could this be something in the gearbox ? (I don't think it is the clutch) Thank for your answers or advices. |

Hi, I wouldn't class myself anywhere near an expert but from what you report, it sounds like when heavily loaded, the drive train is experiencing difficulty in delivering all the torque from the engine to the wheels. So I'd be looking at clutch (which you have already considered), prop shaft system, differential. Does it do it in reverse, loaded and unloaded by any chance? |

I did not try in resverse. I think if there were some troubles with the driveshaft, I should have that problem in the other gears too (4,5 and 6) and that is not the case. There is nothing wrong there. |

Hi Does the shaking/trambling get less as you go up through the gears (bad in 1st not so bad in second less in 3rd and gone in 4th? and is it only when you are using the clutch? I think you will have to do a very thorough check on every part of the drive train, engine and gearbox mounts, U/Js, prop shaft support bearings and rear suspension. If you can find no problems with these parts then it could be the gearbox but I would have thought any gearbox fault would show up in all gears, One other thing I can suggest is as your van is a 40c 13, I think (I'm not sure) the engine has a dual mass flywheel this could be causing some problems if it is worn or damaged. The trambling is only in 1,2 an 3. And then completely gone in 4,5 and 6 |
