Can anyone point me in the right direction, iveco say replace high pressure pump, the daily is a 2001 35s11 van which is suffering from intermittent difficult starting, injector light flashing, diagnostic scan code 1631 says fuel pressure too high, can anyone shed any light on whether this could be a regulator fault or as iveco say a pump fault,is it worth cleaning out the filter within the regulator or would this produce low pressure fault if partially blocked

Hi,

A clogged regulator creates too much pressure. Symptom is hard starting, uneven running of the engine, diesel knock, etc...
Try to clean the regulator.

It is behind the high pressure pump, oriented towards the cabin, and it has a black connector.
You need a 30 Torx soket to remove the two screws. Take care do not lose the gasket.
You should clean the head of the regulator, which is a very fine sieve, with brake spray and then with compressed air.
