Hi all, I'm wondering if my brake servo is actually working on my 35S11. As far as I understand it, the servo uses a vacuum from the engine to assist the driver pushing the brake pedal down? I'm trying to work out if mine is actually working or not. I was coasting down a gentle slope this morning and switched the engine off and the brake pedal and brakes felt exactly the same as when the engine is running. I depressed the brake pedal maybe about 5-6 times, so wouldn't be residual vacuum. The clutch pedal we held in so I was freewheeling, with the engine stopped. What would you expect to feel? If the servo is working does the actual brake pedal itself feel different? Or do the brakes just work a bit better? How would you go about testing the servo? I seem to have to press my brake pedal quite hard to stop... not excessively do I don't think, but not really got anything to compare it to. It is a camper so always running about 3-3.5t. I know my rear brake compensation valve is not working fully and one side on the rear is not getting full pressure. But regardless of that, I would have thought I would feel something different with the engine on or off. Thanks! -Matt |

Hi You would certainly know if the servo was not working as it would be difficult to stop without it !! with vehicle stopped and engine off pump the brake 20 - 30 times, pedal should get slightly harder as stored vacuum is depleted, then hold foot firmly on brake and start engine, pedal should sink slightly as vacuum rebuilds. Fairly sure these have an extra vacuum storage tank under n/s/f arch so ample supply in case engine stops. aidan |
