Hi guys. I have a 35S12 2.3 HPI MWB series 3 early 2006 single rear wheel. I set off on a journey the other day and a very loud mechanical grating / low pitched screeching noise suddenly started from the back end of the van (I was doing 60mph at the time). It now only happens at it worst when accelerating and over 20 mph; if you lift off, the noise almost goes away. I brought it straight home and noticed an oil leak from the diff cover plate. I repaired the leak and put just shy of 2 litres of oil in it, so I presume that it was actually empty. In your own experience(s), is the noise therefore likely to necessitate a complete diff / back axle replacement, or could it just be a bearing? Which would be the best course of action? If it needs an axle, do any of you know any good breakers that may have one? Thanks in advance. |

35C12 2005 MWB DRW 3rd gen’ crew cab tipper F1AE04 85.3 kw 2.3 cc 16v EDC 16. Did you check the UJ universal joints and the prop shaft hanger bearings also wheel bearings? The Transit van is 15 years old and last year there were noises when accelerating in 1st and 2nd gears, turning, going downhill and turning, deaccelerating. The first lot of noise came from the middle hanger bearing and later on the rear hanger bearing and later still from the back UJ. It was £1350 (dealership have to replace the complete unit) to replace the complete prop shaft without labour charges. I got the two hanger bearings for about £20 on the internet and the UJ was also £20 on the internet. |
