Hi I can hear a grinding noise from my engine but only on moving around thirty miles per hour.it it kind of moves with the speed of the engine, no matter what gear its in or in or if u put it in neutral or ride the clutch it j St stays .sometimes you can play the accelerator an it goes away for a bit but its just when it wants really sometimes it doesn't happen for days, sometimes it just doesn't go away . also it is leaking oil around the bell housing put new clutch and hydraulics cs on last week cause it all gave up in one go but I pulled out blocn n box all in one and had it on crane in garden there was oil inside but theres not or wasn't anything coming from either seal now my steering rack has been leaking for some time and its always had a buil d up of oil from there all the way to the end of the box about a year I've had the van. Now theres fresh oil every where but its quite thiin but dirty black like black lots of it is from power steering as its all up offside controlled arm but also fresh all at the bottom of the box and all round like the complete bottom off the bell housing but like a perfect half moon all the way to the syarter on the other side and when I take off the little rubber inspection cap on the bell housing theres fresh oil in there too but still really thinbany way heard they have a problem wi TTY h bottom Ed n float due to a build fault to do with thrust bearings and I know its happensn on 2.3s and2.8s but is it on particular engine codes as they may use the same block for both capacity but not all engines would be built on same block .just that I work seven days a week with the van and can't afford to pull itvapart again sorry for long post can any1 help thanks

35C12 2005 MWB DRW 3rd gen’ crew cab tipper F1AE04 85.3 kw 2.3 cc 16v EDC 16.
Vibration/rpm. There was an outboard motor that used a thin steel rod to indicate engine rpm.
As your grinding noise seems to be heard at about 30mph then it is the frequency generated at that state/condition that causes you to hear the noise.
Seems there is something loose.
Tyre noise can change due to the road surface state/condition and the state/condition of the tyre, vehicle/wheel speed.

The tipper can vibrate a lot and there's a lot of noises when on a rough surface. I have had it about a year and just the other day noticed that a certain noise occurred on a certain road at a certain speed. There are many noises and another showed itself not long ago as coming from the plastic at the front of the cab, I could associate the noise with the vibrating plastic just at the bottom of the windscreen. The transit van also makes numerous noises there are 3 bolts on the plastic in front of the steering wheel which at certain speeds can be seen to jingle about making a little racket all of their own.
Last night in the old Audi there was a grinding sort of noise coming from the front, seemed like a wheel bearing, when I turned off that road the noise stopped immediately, road surfaces look much the same but can be different and cause noise.

One garage owner told me that a lot of vans come to his garage because of a noise, in the back they find the cause of the noise which is usually something the owner has done or something the owner has left in the back.

So have a good look for something that is loose, a thing can be attached but also loose to flap about/vibrate. A pipe can be attached at one end but along its length it is not supported which allows it to be vibrated as it vibrates it can rub/rattle against another thing and so on.

You may need another person to assist in finding the noise. A video camera can be positioned to see and hear a likely source of the noise.
