Improving gear changing?

I get the usual difficult shifting between 1st and second when cold.

Any good suppliers of the genuine Iveco gearbox oil?

Is the linkage adjustable?

What parts can be replaced in the shifting assembly? Any part numbers?

thanks

have you got the 5 or 6 speed box??

I got the 6 speed 2.8 and from 1st to 2nd is tough but to be honest I find it better to pull off in 2nd as 1st gear is so short

It seems there are 3 5 speed and 3 6 speed gearboxes, the image in attachments seems to apply to both 5 and 6 speed.
There are measurements at X and Y and shim under the gear stick knob. It could be difficult to measure accurately in situ.
The image indicates there are lots of places where wear could occur.

When cold it is difficult to change from 1st to 2nd and other gears can be a little difficult to get when warm. I often think that I didn't depress the clutch sufficiently.
I am 6ft and find the sitting/driving position awkward as my knees are just short of the steering I also find that my foot seems to be over the pedal rather than on it when the pedal is depressed, my foot seems to be too far forward.
I tend to change gear slowly, when cold in 1st I use very little throttle and slowly change to 2nd this method does get it into 2nd even though some force is required.

The vans I had in the 1970s did not give me any problems re sitting/driving position, operating the pedals and steering. The 2000 transit and the 2005 Iveco do.

Thanks for the replies, I have the 5 speed.

I'll look at the adjustments on the linkage.

Is the Iveco dealer the best place for the Tutela gearbox oil? I can't seem to find the Truck Gearlite oil as specified in the manual.

Start at the start/cheapest option, phone main dealer and order/reserve proper tutella oil, then go from there. If it changes ok after a few miles now oil maybe only problem. if its permanent most likely synchro needs replacing, not a small job.

Anyone who has trouble shifting gears, particularly 1st to 2nd when cold, definitely go and get the correct fully synthetic gearbox oil from Iveco (or the same stuff elsewhere).

The motor factors I tried did not have a suitable oil listed in the book, one aftermarket oil supplier stated 'specialist oil' for Iveco.

My gearbox had an oil change at a truck garage and they presumably filled the 'box with standard gearbox oil, the change was stiff and notchy when cold and 2nd almost impossible to get, and the box graunched as well. I struggled with it for a year and even added Molyslip additive which made no difference.

I then changed to the Iveco oil and within a few miles the gearbox became silky smooth with a light shift and no detectable difference whether hot or cold! There must be heaps of Dailys running round with a crappy gear change due to the wrong oil being used!

Deveron, I wouldn't touch the linkage until you've run it with the new oil.
