Hi

Just after a bit of help. I have a 6.5 ton daily and it failed its mot on n/s handbrake efficiency…there is none!

Its a different type to the other daily's i have fixed before, the hub retaining nut on this one is 90mm instead of 65mm. I spoke to a iveco fitter he told me that that the torque setting on the nut is 392nm but he also said that you need an iveco special tool to adjust the handbrake through the back of the plate.

Any advice on setting up the handbrake cable without the special tool would be appreciated!

Thanks

David

If its a similar set up to 35c models, albeit larger, I used a special tool....bent a screw driver 90 degrees about 1 1/2 " from tip, it was the blade from one of those double ended screw drivers that reverse in handle, used it without handle.
problem I had, and you might, was adjusters siezed solid, had to strip hub down, clean and loosen adjusters, re assemble, adjust.
If you adjust to tighten shoes with wheels of, tighten so you can only just move by hand, then with a nylon/hyde mallet clout all around drum, this centralises shoes, dont go mad you dont want to break drum(I never have yet) tighten till solid, tap around again, then back off untill you are happy with adjustment that shoes arent rubbing,
when this has been done, adjust cable if needed.
you can put a bar between wheel studs to rotate wheels, putting hand brake on one click at a time you should be able to get the adjustment so both need equal force to turn , at the same setting, just before they lock solid. then double check free running when handbrake off. hope this helps.

Ivecojoe..Thanks, that helps a lot, I will get going with it tomorrow once I pick up my £55+ vat 90mm box spanner!

Thanks again

out of interest do you know the correct torque setting for the wheel nuts, my norbar was telling me that they were done up to about 1200nm when i took them off…I'm guessing thats to high!
