Hi all, I've currently got my camper in storage (since May) I pop round when I can to turn her over and let her run for an hour or so, but the last couple of times I've been to start her up (about every three weeks) the new 90 Ah battery has struggled to start her, yesterday I had to get the jump leads out.. Solar charging is forbidden on the storage site, so that's not an option.. I've got the engine battery at home now giving it a smart charge.. I'm thinking of leaving the battery disconnected whilst not using it for upto a few months?? Question: is this likely to cause any damage to the electronics on the van ie: memory loss on the ECU? Or am I being stupid?? Thanks in advance John |

How To Perform a Parasitic Draw Test - EricTheCarGuy on youtube. If the battery is low over time then there could be a switch left on or similar. The clock does draw on the battery. Plenty of info' re battery maintenance on the internet, better not to use fast charging. If you disconnect the battery for a long time then it is better to slowly discharge it and slowly recharge it. I don't know if the ECU is affected by not being connected to the battery. They may not be any effect to the electronics. Why not solar charge the battery at your home? Take the battery and jump leads to the vehicle, use the jump leads to connect the battery that way you don't need to connect up the battery each time. |

when you have fully charged battery and refitted it, if you are leaving it just remove earth clamp, then nothing can discharge, just push it on for occasional starting and pull of after. battery if good will last ages doing that, saves struggling lifting it in /out ect. be aware if tacho fitted will need re setting and keep radio codes. when you have fully charged battery and refitted it, if you are leaving it just remove earth clamp, then nothing can discharge, just push it on for occasional starting and pull of after. battery if good will last ages doing that, saves struggling lifting it in /out ect. be aware if tacho fitted will need re setting and keep radio codes. That's great lads and thanks for the advice.. I was just worried that something might die if it had no power for a long time... Battery is now fully charged from the conditioner setting on the smart charger!! Cheers |
